For customers balancing rising operating costs, ambitious energy efficiency targets and keeping buildings running reliably, this highlights the significant opportunity hidden within ageing infrastructure. While lifts account for an estimated 2-5% of a building’s energy consumption, this can rise to as much as 10% in older systems, and over half of Britain’s lifts are thought to be at least 25 years old.
We often talk about making buildings more efficient and sustainable. Yet lifts are rarely part of that discussion. Many older lifts still have years of useful life ahead of them, and targeted upgrades can help customers reduce energy use, lower operating costs, improve reliability and create a better experience for building users.
