I have enjoyed a Swedish vacation. For those of you who do not know the concept; manual labor in the garden or at the cottage, sommarstuga. Let me tell you it is quite far from the Instagram stories... Back at work, I came across our post about the KONE Global Youth Camp, where young people (children of KONE employees) came together to build friendships, learn from each other, and experience new cultures.
The post put a smile on my face and brought me down memory lane, of my camp days, in a different Millenium. Riding camps, scout camps, music camps, church camps, the list is endless; I was a camp person. Fond memories and, quite naturally, memories of wet tents, mosquito bites, lost items, and home sickness. Looking at the pictures from the KONE Youth Camp made me realize that it is these types of experiences that shaped me as a leader long before I had a leadership title.
✅ Meeting people from different cultures
✅ Learning to be curious
✅ Solving problems
✅ Stepping into the unfamiliar (and uncomfortable…)
all above taught me how to listen, connect and bring different perspectives into decision-making and being resourceful (yes, there is only so much a bag pack can hold).
Happy to see initiatives like the KONE Global Youth Camp bring together young people from around the world. Experiences like these don't just create memories. They help shape the leaders of tomorrow. A big thank you to @KONE and Jere Santala for your work!
