Most people will simply walk through this tunnel on their way to the metro, without realizing the amount of engineering, planning, coordination, and teamwork behind it.
Proud to share progress from a pedestrian underpass project in Lusail, delivered for Al Jaber Engineering, serving as a key connection to the metro network.
The project comprises 4 elevators and 4 escalators, distributed between the North Gate and South Gate, with each gate equipped with 2 elevators and 2 escalators to ensure safe, accessible, and efficient passenger movement.
One of the key challenges was integrating the elevators within premium architectural finishes while preserving the intended architectural vision of the structure. Achieving the desired appearance required close coordination between elevator works, civil works, architectural finishes, and multiple stakeholders to ensure every visible detail met the expected quality standards.
The escalator installation process presented another major challenge. Each escalator required detailed logistics planning, assembly, lifting studies, and precise positioning. Mobile crane operations were carefully coordinated to safely lift and place the escalators into their final locations within the tunnel structure.
The project also had to be executed under strict seasonal heat restrictions. To ensure workforce safety and comply with HSE requirements, outdoor activities were restricted during peak daytime hours, requiring extensive night-shift operations to maintain progress while protecting our teams.
Projects like this remind us that successful delivery is not only about installing equipment—it is about transforming complex engineering challenges into safe, reliable, and seamless journeys for the people who use them every day.
Behind every successful infrastructure project is a team committed to excellence, safety, and execution. Proud to be part of a journey that will serve thousands of passengers every day.
