Hyundai Elevator organized its “Block Pencil Case-Making” volunteer initiati ve as part of a global social contribution program led by the voluntary engag ement of its employees.
Under the initiative, employees handcraft block-shaped pencil cases for children in East Asia and donate them together with approximately 2,600 school supplies, such as postcards, pencils and erasers. By personally creating the pencil cases instead of limiting their involvement to a conventional dona tion, the employee volunteers made the act of sharing even more mean ingful.
The activity took place over two days last month at Hyundai Elevator facilities in Chungju and Seoul. The first event was held at 12:30 p.m. on the 23rd in the main auditorium of the welfare building at the company’s Smart Campus in Chungju, North Chungcheong Province. A second event followed at noon on the 30th at H-stadium, a cultural space in the Hyundai Group Building in Yeonji-dong, Seoul
Some 130 participating employees devoted their lunch breaks to carefully assembling the block pencil cases by hand. They also prepared messages of encouragement in English, adding a heartfelt touch of support and sharing for children abroad.
According to the company, the program was created to provide children in underserved parts of East Asia with practical tools for learning. The employee-made pencil cases, along with other school supplies, will be distributed to the children through the nonprofit organization Warming Korea.
“We seek to create greater educational opportunities for children through community initiatives that encourage our employees to volunteer and take an active role,”a Hyundai Elevator official said.“We will continue to expand employee engagement programs in the hope that each small contribution will support children in their learning and growth.”
