๐ Most elevators quietly do their job. Then, every once in a while, you come across one that reminds you why you chose to become an engineer in the first place.
๐ Today I had the opportunity to visit the first TWIN elevator installation in Italy. Two independent cars operating within the same hoistway, coordinated by an impressive control architecture and advanced collision prevention systems. Seeing it in operation is far more impressive than reading about it on paper.
๐ง Having spent my entire professional career in the elevator industry, I naturally found myself looking beyond the cars. The rope arrangement, the traction machines, and the overall engineering behind this installation were fascinating. As expected, part of our conversation naturally turned to ropes, lubrication strategies, and the potential integration of automatic lubrication systems. Every detail reflects the complexity of turning such an ambitious concept into a safe and reliable reality.
๐ค A sincere thank you to Daniele Pavan and the TK Elevator team for their warm welcome and for the interesting conversation on the engineering choices behind this remarkable installation. Discussions like these remind me that no matter how much experience you gain, there will always be an engineering solution capable of surprising you.
