Prairie View A&M University has been ranked the nation’s No. 3 public HBCU and the No. 1 Texas HBCU in Forbes’ first-ever standalone ranking of Historically Black Colleges and Universities—an assessment recognizing institutions that deliver strong graduation outcomes, competitive alumni earnings and meaningful return on investment.
Unlike traditional rankings that often emphasize selectivity or institutional resources, Forbes centered its assessment on student outcomes, including graduation rates, alumni earnings and student debt.
I commend Forbes for recognizing the distinct mission, value and impact of HBCUs through a dedicated ranking. While no ranking can fully capture the breadth of a university’s contributions, comparison among peer institutions can inspire both healthy competition and a shared commitment to excellence.
As a public institution of higher education, our responsibility remains clear: to provide students with an exceptional, holistic education that prepares them to thrive and delivers lasting value to our students, the state of Texas and the nation.
