🏙️ Building Case Study: Toranomon Hills Station Tower, Tokyo, Japan 🇯🇵
At approximately 266 metres tall, Toranomon Hills Station Tower is an extraordinary example of what happens when architecture, engineering, transport infrastructure and urban regeneration are designed as one interconnected project.
Completed in 2023, the 49 storey tower forms the centrepiece of the expanded Toranomon Hills district and is directly integrated with Toranomon Hills Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line.
But perhaps the most impressive part of the project is the enormous team of architects, engineers, contractors and specialists required to deliver it.

Designed by OMA / Shohei Shigematsu, working alongside Mori Building and Kume Sekkei, Station Tower was conceived not simply as another high rise but as a piece of urban infrastructure.
The tower rises directly above and alongside one of Tokyo’s most important new transport connections.
At its base, the approximately 2,000m² Station Atrium creates a dramatic multi-level public space connecting the railway station with retail, offices, streets and the wider Toranomon Hills development.
🌉 THE T-DECK
One of the project’s most distinctive engineering elements is the T-Deck.
Approximately 20 metres wide, the elevated pedestrian connection crosses Sakurada-dori and links Station Tower into the existing Toranomon Hills development.
Specialist bridge and structural designer Ney & Partners contributed to its design.
