The Asia-Pacific elevator market was valued at USD 47.4 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 87.2 billion by 2034, growing at a CAGR of 7.0% through the forecast period. This isn't just about new construction. It's about an aging installed base entering its modernization cycle at the same time new safety regulations are rewriting the rules.
Here's what's reshaping the industry right now:
→ India's Bureau of Indian Standards enacted IS 17900 in December 2025, replacing three older codes with a comprehensive safety framework modeled on Europe's EN 81-20/50 standard. That single regulatory shift is driving demand for unintended-car-movement protection, automatic rescue devices, and stricter door-locking systems across every new installation in the country.
→ Machine-room-less (MRL) traction elevators are becoming the default choice in dense urban developments, prized for their smaller footprint and lower energy use.
→ IoT-enabled predictive maintenance is moving from pilot projects to standard practice - Otis Worldwide's Gen2 and Gen3 MRL systems at One Marina Gardens in Singapore are a good example of where the technology is headed.
China remains the largest market, backed by an enormous installed base entering modernization. But India is the one to watch - it's projected to be the fastest-growing country market through 2034, driven by the Smart Cities Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and rapid Tier II and Tier III city construction.
On the corporate side, KONE expanded its Bengaluru branch and South Regional Office in Hebbal just last month to strengthen its southern India footprint, while TK Elevator added roughly 10,000 square meters of manufacturing capacity in India. Manufacturers aren't waiting for demand to arrive - they're building ahead of it.
For anyone in construction, real estate development, building safety compliance, or vertical transportation manufacturing, this is a market where regulatory change, urbanization, and modernization cycles are all pulling in the same direction at once.
