🎉 Celebrating 15 Years of CyberWise!

CyberWise.org launched on July 22, 2011, at the National Association for Media Literacy Education Conference in Philadelphia with a simple mission:

"To help parents and educators raise thoughtful, responsible, and informed digital citizens."

15 years later, I’d like to think we’ve stayed true to that mission. Better yet, it continues to grow.

Co-founding CyberWise.org with Diana Graber, and watching her Cyber Civics curriculum flourish, has been one of the most meaningful experiences of both our lives.

In fact, in 2011, we couldn’t get arrested. Everyone thought we were a little crazy. Then cyberbullying, sexting, fake news, deepfakes, and now the onslaught of AI has entered the conversation.

PLUS, back then I drove everyone around me crazy with my incessant babble about the promises and perils of our emerging participatory culture.

And on top of it all, I was…

An empty nester. Fifteen pounds lighter. Didn’t need glasses. Could still climb stairs two at a time. Still carrying a BlackBerry. Chatting on AIM. Checking in on Foursquare. And yes… I still had a personal AOL email address. Blockbuster had just gone bankrupt, and TiVo was on its way out. 😉

Now, a decade and a half later, I’ve learned that wisdom isn’t having all the answers. It’s staying curious enough to keep asking better questions.

Special shout out to everyone who has supported CyberWise, and to everyone who’s shaped how we think about technology and digital wellbeing along this journey. Your trust, encouragement, and partnership have made this journey possible. I’m deeply grateful for what we’ve accomplished together, and even more excited about what’s ahead.
