Did you know that some of the little things we ignore matter most in safety?
Let me ask you something. 🤔 Have you ever wondered why escalators have handrails? Or better still, When was the last time you actually held one? Be honest, 😄
Every day I see people: 📱 Busy texting. 🤳 Perfecting their selfies. 🧍 Hands comfortably tucked in their pockets. 🏃 Sprinting up and down the escalator as if they're training for the Olympics. 😂
Then I ask myself. What if the escalator stopped abruptly right now?
Would they still be smiling, or would gravity suddenly become their new manager? 😅
The funny thing is that many people—including some engineers—rarely use the handrail. Yet this "little" feature is one of the biggest contributors to passenger safety.
An escalator can stop unexpectedly due to: ⚡ Power failure. 🔧 Equipment faults. 🛑 Someone accidentally pressing the emergency stop button. 🛡️ A safety device doing exactly what it was designed to do—protect you.
When that happens, the handrail may be the only thing standing between you and an embarrassing... or painful.. meeting with the steps.
Let's start a simple safety campaign. 📢 Tell a friend. 👷 Remind a colleague. 🏢 Educate a client. Because... Some little things matter most in safety.
My challenge to escalator manufacturers: Why not print simple safety reminders directly on the moving handrail belts? "For your safety, always hold the handrail." One simple message. Thousands of passengers. Every single day.
