You probably think I don’t go anywhere else! 😄
Every so often I’m at Great Jackson Street, and I always take a moment to take in the Manchester skyline.
Knowing I played a small part in the construction of the original Owen Street towers still gives me goosebumps.
It’s a long way from where I started as a lift engineer in Keighley, working mainly on goods lifts in the mills of West Yorkshire. Open lattice gates, single-speed crash stops, round guide rails, no pre-locks, and very little of the safety equipment we now take for granted.
A car-top inspection unit? If you were lucky! 🤣
Were they the “good old days”? Probably not.
But it’s been an incredible journey, with 38 years of memories to look back on.
Not done yet either!
