Elevator Maintenance Tip: Don’t Hold the Doors Open
It seems harmless, but repeatedly forcing elevator doors open with your hands, feet, carts, or equipment can cause premature wear on one of the hardest-working parts of the elevator.
A few quick tips:
* Use the Door Open button instead of blocking the doors.
* If you’re moving large items, use the independent service feature rather than forcing the doors.
* If the doors begin closing, don’t try to hold them open.
Modern elevators have safety devices to detect people and objects, but they’re not designed to have the doors manually forced open dozens of times every day.
A little care can help reduce unnecessary service calls, extend equipment life, and keep passengers moving safely.
