Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting with Hendra Suryakusuma, the CEO of Datagarda Indonesia and Chairman of the Indonesia Data Center Provider Organization (IDPRO), along with his team, over lunch in Jakarta.
What made the conversation particularly meaningful was how closely it connected with some of the data center challenges I have discussed in my previous posts, especially around talent, ecosystem readiness, and industry collaboration.
It was encouraging to see that these challenges aren't just being discussed. Hendra and his team are working to turn them into practical initiatives and tangible action.
One important focus is developing local talent and strengthening the capabilities needed to support Indonesia’s rapidly evolving data center industry. Equally important is their effort to bring together stakeholders across the ecosystem to exchange perspectives, align on future priorities, openly address industry challenges, and identify collaborative solutions.
For me, this is how an ecosystem matures.
It is not only about building more data centers or adding more capacity. It is about building the people, capabilities, partnerships, and shared vision that allow the industry to grow sustainably.
These efforts can play an important role in advancing Indonesia’s broader digital ecosystem across data centers, cloud computing, and Web3. There is still a long journey ahead, but meaningful progress starts by recognizing the challenges, investing in the right capabilities, and creating platforms where the industry can move forward together.
