1901, 2016, 2023. Three dates, one building and many stories to tell.
The Mining Museum of La Unión, in Murcia (Spain), was originally built as the Liceo de Obreros, designed by Pedro Cerdán as a space to bring education and culture closer to those who needed it most.
Since then, the building has had many lives: educational centre, library, training space and, since 2001, Mining Museum.
In 2016, José Manuel Chacón Bulnes led its refurbishment and architectural adaptation. And in 2023, Orona Pecres became part of this story by installing a 13-person lift to improve the museum’s accessibility, integrating it subtly and respectfully into the building.
A project that reflects Orona’s ability to provide vertical mobility solutions also in historic buildings, where every intervention requires sensitivity, precision and respect for the identity of the place.
Because accessibility can also engage in dialogue with history.
