Standing next to Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan is One Vanderbilt, one of the tallest office towers in New York City.
And moving thousands of workers and visitors efficiently through a modern high-rise like this takes much more than simply adding more elevators.
Schindler supplied the building's vertical transportation system, including high-rise Schindler 7000 elevators and Schindler 9300 escalators.
At the building's opening, Schindler reported providing 36 elevators, 32 of them equipped with PORT destination-dispatch technology, along with three escalators.
PORT groups passengers traveling to similar destinations so the system can reduce unnecessary stops and move people through the building more efficiently.
That technology becomes especially important in buildings where thousands of people may arrive for work within the same short morning window.
The taller our buildings become, the smarter their elevator traffic systems need to become too.
