Meet the Committee – Noel Smith, Codes.
We're pleased to introduce Noel Smith, who serves as Codes Representative for the Lift Engineering Society of Australia (LESA).
With more than four decades of experience across the elevator, escalator, and moving walk industry, Noel is widely respected for his expertise in codes, standards, compliance, risk management, and safety.
As Director WHS & Codes at Pitfield & Associates International Elevator Consultants, Noel has played a significant role in shaping industry standards both within Australia and internationally. His contributions include appointments to ISO TC178 working groups, Standards Australia committees, and numerous industry technical working groups focused on lift and escalator safety, compliance, and design.
Prior to his consulting career, Noel held senior positions with WorkCover NSW and Otis Elevator Company, where he was responsible for lift regulation, accident investigations, risk management, compliance reviews, and the development of industry standards and best practice frameworks.
As LESA's Codes Representative, Noel provides invaluable technical guidance to members and helps ensure the Association remains informed on regulatory developments, standards updates, and industry compliance requirements.
His depth of knowledge and ongoing contribution continue to support the safe and professional advancement of the vertical transportation industry.
