For more than 170 years, the suspension means behind elevators has continuously evolved. From hemp rope to steel wire rope and, more recently, to coated steel belts.
In my latest article for @Elevator World Inc., I reflect on the 25-year journey of coated steel belt technology and how it helped transform elevator design, performance and safety standards across the industry. Since the introduction of the Gen2® elevator in 2000, coated steel belts have enabled smaller, more efficient machine-room-less systems while delivering durability, energy efficiency and improved passenger experience. Today, more than 1.2 million belted units have been installed worldwide.
What began as an engineering challenge, ultimately helped establish a new industry standard, with global codes and standards evolving alongside the technology. It's a reminder that some of the most significant innovations are the ones passengers never see, but rely on every day.
Thank you to Elevator World for the opportunity to share this perspective on the evolution of elevator suspension technology. #MadeToMoveYou https://lnkd.in/gF5gR-i7
