When I joined KONE, one of the first things I paid attention to was how long it takes to modernize an elevator.
With around 10 million elevators around the world ready for an upgrade, the opportunity is enormous. But if each project takes several weeks, upgrading buildings at scale becomes a very long journey indeed.
That’s why I am excited that today we are launching KONE one-week modernization – our ambition to make elevator modernization faster, smoother and less disruptive for our customers and the people who use their buildings every day.
A recent experience brought this to life for me. Over the summer, I stayed in a beautiful hotel where everything worked well, except the elevator. It was old, slow and clearly ready for an upgrade. When I spoke with the front desk, their first reaction was familiar: modernization would be too time-consuming, disruptive and expensive.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. In most cases, elevator modernization can be far simpler than many building owners expect and can be completed in as little as one week by upgrading only the essentials; electrification and signalization. This significantly reduces equipment downtime and minimizes inconvenience for the tenants during the installation. And the result? Reliable operation and fewer breakdowns, as well as lower energy consumption.
For us, one-week modernization is more than a new concept. With built-in connectivity, it is a driver of our digital growth.
My hope is simple: that our customers are surprised by how easy modernization can be – and delighted by the difference it makes.
