🏙️ Building Spotlight: 270 Park Avenue, New York 🇺🇸
Rising 423m (1,388ft) above Midtown Manhattan, 270 Park Avenue, the new global headquarters of JPMorganChase, is one of New York’s most impressive engineering projects.
The 60 storey, approximately 2.5 million sq ft tower has been designed for around 10,000 employees and is the city’s tallest all electric skyscraper.
🚆 BUILT ABOVE GRAND CENTRAL
The tower sits directly above rail infrastructure serving Grand Central Terminal, severely restricting where it’s enormous structural loads could reach the ground.
The solution is the spectacular fan column structure visible at its base, transferring loads to foundation locations between the railway tracks.
🏗️ More than 93,600 tons of US made steel were used, with Banker Steel responsible for fabrication and New York City Constructors for erection.
🪟 Around 1.2 million sq ft of curtain wall was delivered by New Hudson Facades, incorporating triple glazing and distinctive bronze toned elements.
🛗 Otis supplied 89 units, including 72 SkyRise elevators and 12 escalators.
⚡ The building is 100% electric, powered by renewable electricity sourced from a New York State hydroelectric plant, with energy recovery, intelligent controls, advanced air filtration, water conservation and rainwater harvesting.
At street level, the elevated structure creates approximately 2.5 times more outdoor public space than the previous building.
